Site 13, Lake Canyon
The springs of Lake Canyon fed a natural lake of clear, clean water called Lake Pagahrit. The lake provided a welcome relief and the opportunity for the pioneers to clean up. Its natural dam provided an easy means for crossing the canyon. In 1915 the natural dam washed away when water from three days of hard rain breached the dam.

The Hole-in-the-Rock Foundation Preserving the History and Sharing the Legacy
Sunday, Feb. 29th, 1880. "Drove 7 miles over a rough rocky and sandy road to the lake, a beautiful clear sheet of spring water ½ a mile long and nearly as wide, and apparently very deep. Cottonwood, willow, canes, flags, bulrushes and several kinds of grass grow luxuriantly, and it would make an excellent stock ranch. On a point of rock jutting into the lake is the remains of an old stone fortification, built probably several hundred years ago."
